Nathon's Kingdom (Retroactive) Review---A Powerful Drama About Adult Autism and Its Toll on Siblings

    Adult autism can have its toll on a family. Jacob Lince plays an autistic adult taken care of by his drug-user sister, Madison Ford. They embark on a journey to find their long-imagined kingdom defying social workers and other odds, including a love-hate relationship with her brother because of her inability to deal with his autism. They also meet a few friends along the way. 

    The movie continues to detail their travels to find their elusive kingdom with a nice touch of animation to describe what appears to be the kingdom. The energy between the brother and sister is intense, but the storyline indicates she is an opioid user but does not develop that storyline. Do not miss Nathan's Kingdom to see if he finds it. I give the grade a B+.

Everyday is Autism Awareness Day

Selecting one or two days a year to promote autism awareness does not create such an atmosphere. Autism awareness is an everyday activity for God's sake.

I experience autism awareness every day because I am autistic. Please walk in my shoes as you read this article. Try to see what I see, hear what I hear, and feel the way I feel. My Experience

 I experience autism awareness when driving. I prefer to ride motorcycles, but not because I prefer motorcycles rather than cars. I feel less anxious when riding a motorcycle than driving a car. I have anxiety when driving a car. Taking my driving test was horrific. I have visual acuity problems. I cannot judge distance in a car. I can on a motorcycle. Cars are a "ton" more difficult for me to navigate than motorcycles.

   There are other issues too. For example, I was riding my motorcycle on the freeway at night, and glare from a car light hit my eyes. I had an anxiety attack.

  Opening packages are difficult for me. Writing is difficult for me. I was terrible at woodshop class in middle school. I have a muscle coordination condition in the arms and legs called dysgraphia.

   I get words confused at the cognitive level. I would call a computer keyboard the "screen." I call the table “a chair”.

   People with autism experience autism awareness every day of the year. One day in April to promote autism awareness is not enough.

Jack of Red Hearts Retroactive Review Could be better---Much Better

 Act I

A young adult (Anna-Sophia Robb) on probation pretends to be a donation collector and gets caught. Then fake being a live-in worker for an autistic child (Taylor Richardson).  Act I was not very convincing.

Act II

As the story progresses, Robb's credentials are questioned, and then the parents see the headway she is making until she is discovered. 

Act III

Rob redeems herself at the end as she shows how much he progressed as a companion

This is a nice albeit un believable story. I give Jack of Red Hearts a C-

Atypical Still going Strong---I Mean Strong

 Now the series advances to graduation time. Paine's character has developed a same-sex relationship and Rappaport and Leigh's characters are still separated because of Leigh's character's affair. This season Gilchrist's friendship is challenged with Dodani's character. There are some irrelevant storylines in the series this season as is mentioned. All in all, Atypical remains a strong about a teen with autism transitioning to adulthood
